Happy Things

It's January, and time for my yearly "Happy Things" post. Just a couple...

A new shower curtain

Mark and I have been in the lengthy process of "redressing" our bedroom - with some minor bathroom renovation to boot. After living for over year with a liner for a curtain, I sprung for this one at Target. I love it! When he saw it, Mark said, "that is what my brain looks like!" And I think he's probably right.

Dangerous Journey - a retelling of The Pilgrim's Progress

Bella reading her literature book to the boys. We use Veritas Press literature guides, and I really love this beautiful book!

Now I saw in my dream that the road, from then on, was named Salvation. Along this road did burdened Christian run. Or should we say, he did his best to run, so far as he could, with that load upon his back. At the foot of a hill, he passed an open tomb. Then up again, upon a little knoll, he found himselfe beneath a wayside cross. And as its shadow fell across him, so suddenly the burden, slipping from his shoulders, fell from off his back. It tumbled down the hill. It tumbled into the mouth of the tomb. It was never seen again.
Christian kept feeling behind his back. He couldn't believe it. For it was very surprising to him that the simple act of gazing at the cross had set him free, and his burden of guilt was gone.
As he stood there in amazement, behold three Shining Ones appeared. The first one said: Your soul is now swept clean of sin.
The second one stripped him of his mud-stained rags, and gave him bright new clothes. The third one handed him a parchment.
Guard it carefully, he said, and surrender it only when you have reached the gate of the Celestial City.
Great dangers lay ahead of him but for the moment he was light as air. So Christian gave three leaps for joy, and went on singing.

MOO

I needed some quick and easy tags for my "Sweet Mylissa" gear, and I remembered that Robin Cornett had ordered these a couple years ago as business cards. Mini-Moos are so cute, and you can upload up to 20 images for a set of 100. There are three font choices for the back - simple but very nice. At 19.99 and fairly quick shipping you can't beat it!

Celebrations all around

May 10 was Bella's 9th birthday and Mother's Day. We celebrated all day, including a trip to build-a-bear in the afternoon. On May 12 Nonny Margaret came into town, and on the 19th we celebrated Papa Gary's first birthday in heaven. Samuel's birthday was the next day, so Mark and I really wanted to do something special to celebrate both of these days. The evening of the 19th, we left for St Louis to go to Six Flags all day on the 20th. Papa LOVED roller coasters, and amusement parks were something that Mark and his brother John enjoyed with their parents regularly when they were kids. Bella also rode her first roller coaster with Papa. It was bittersweet to enjoy that park without Gary, but it was also more precious to think about how much Papa would have enjoyed it there. Mark inherited his father's love of crazy rides, so he really enjoyed himself too.

Fun for Mama

Well...
I really didn't think I would do this (again) but I have the chance to sell (just a few) of my handmade items in a little shop in Munford, TN. I am meeting with the owner next week, and we agreed together that I would provide some items, but I wouldn't be under any pressure to provide a high rate of product. Since I pretty much give away what i make, I will be throwing together a few cute pieces this weekend to bring in to Amy, so we can decide together what will work best in her store.

So - this is where you come in.

Some of may know (or remember, God love you) that Mark and I had a little shop in Wilmington, NC while we lived there. Mark made jewelry, I made clothes, and we even had Greatful Dead tie dyed t-shirts for sale. This little place had the uber-cool name of:

InnerSoul Creations

ARGH!! I can't believe I just publicly admitted that. We were 19. Now...I really need your help to come up with a name for my items. I dont really see the need for this, but Mark thinks its imperative. The two that are in the running at the moment are:

Mimi's Closet
Sweet Mylissa's

Both of these have meaning in my life - my father used to name stuff Sweet Mylissa after me - once a big shiny red dump truck and another time a big boat that started on fire. Confession time! And a precious little girl who I loved dearly while she was little used to call me Mimi. I practiced most of my mothering on this little one, since I didn't have my own yet, and I still love her dearly.

Ok - vote away, or help me with a better name!!

Special Mom, Special Kid

If you've known me for a while, you will know that special kids have a special place in my heart. Moms of special kids have an extra-special place in my heart :). Today I found this on Heather Bailey's blog and I was so impressed. Heather is a pretty busy woman, and to take the time to ease her daughter into this by creating something really cool...she inspires me.

WooHoo!! We made it!

Thank you so much for your prayers! We made it - fell into bed about midnight, and this morning feeling like the time change is giving us some margin. Today, we will make breakfast for the family downstairs, take them to church with us, and then have the day to relax (until I meet with my community group tonight!). I am really hoping to CREATE something today - have lots of fabric I need to cut. Just found this today...love it!!!!

HFH Fall Fellowship/FM 5 Year Anniversary

Hi all,

At 6:30, we will need to leave the house for a party to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of our church, Fellowship Memphis. The day will be LOTS of fun, but I admit to starting out a little wiped. We had a full day yesterday, and we tought horsey lessons and whatnot on Thursday. I am looking forward to Sunday, already :)!
